Language Management settings let you assign or modify a language of a page or post. It also allows you to create relationships between a source page and the translation.
For example, if you have translated the “About Us” page using another plugin or externally from WordPress, Straker Translation’s WP plugin will not know that the two pages are related. Therefore, if you update “About Us” and send it for re-translation, the translated page will not be updated; rather, another translated copy of “About Us” will be created.
Assign or Change a Page’s Language
When the plugin is installed, the source language will be assigned to all content. The plugin uses the language assigned to a page to determine which language version it belongs to and when it should display. If you have translated content outside of Straker Translations’ WP plugin you can manually assign or change the language of a page.
- Ensure you have added the target language (see Setup).
- Go to Settings > Language Management.
- Find the content you would like to assign a language to.
- Select the content.
- Select the language to be assigned from the Select Locale Language drop-down.
- Click Apply.
- You will see that the language in the Language column has been updated.
Assign a Source Post
Note! This step is only necessary if you have translated the content outside of Straker Translations’ WP plugin.
Assigning a source post to a translation creates a relationship between the two pages for Straker Translations’ WP plugin.
- Go to Settings > Language Management.
- Find the content that has been translated.
- Select the content.
- Select the source of the translation from the Source Post drop-down.
- Click Apply.
- You will see the source post in the Source post column has been updated.
When you update the source post and translate it again, the translation will be applied to the already translated page. Without doing this, the plugin will not know whether the translation already exists or not, and will create a copy of the page.
